Earth Month Tech Now Events with Free Geek

Rose City Park Neighborhood Association (map)

For TWENTY FIVE years now, Free Geek has provided e-waste recycling services by taking in unwanted technology, diverting it from landfills and putting it into the hands of community members who need it the most. We have created a unique circular model which points two existing societal problems - excess electronic waste in need of sustainable reuse and recycling, and lack of access to basic technology among vulnerable populations - back at each other to reveal innovative solutions. The computers we refurbish and put back into the community are saved from ending up in landfills, and instead go on to find a new life helping provide vulnerable populations with the digital literacy skills they need to succeed and thrive.

In honor of Earth Month and Free Geek's 25th birthday (our quarter century!), the business community is partnering with Free Geek for #TechNOW to host a series of technology collection sites across the Portland Metro Area throughout the month of April. Our goal this year is to collect 20,000 lbs of technology and raise $7,500 to refurbish the devices collected during the campaign to provide to community members most impacted by the digital divide.

Community Cycle Center Salvage Sunday

Community Cycling Center Warehouse (map)

Our Salvage Sale is the last stop for bikes and parts to have another chance at being reused before getting recycled. You'll find rough project frames, scrap parts and more. This is a great place to look for scrap metal for sculptures, garden art, craft projects, welding practice, or filling your parts bins with nuts and bolts.

If the word salvage doesn't say it clearly enough, everything for sale is CHEAP. We want to see it get used!

The Salvage Sale is every Sunday at the CCC Annex!

The FCE Loft @ Kenton Church (map)

The Free Clothing Exchange is ready for your clothing and books.

The North Portland Free Clothing Exchange is a free community event held monthly at the Kenton Church (in the loft) on North Lombard Street. Everyone is welcome. All sizes of Men’s, Women’s, and Children’s clothing will be exchanged.

There is no requirement that you donate to take part in the exchange.

Be sure to check out the bookshelf for some good reads while you are shopping. We exchange books too! Bring your books for all ages that are in good condition and that you’d be proud to share…and take a few new stories home with you. As with the clothing, no donation is required in order to receive.

Learn how it works before attending. These events need volunteers too!
